Doctor and Professor LaConyer Davis is a native Chicagoan, growing up on Chicago's Westside and educated in Chicago Public Schools. In addition to teaching classes at Chicago State University, Professor Davis also serves as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor. She received a BA from UIC in 2000 in African American Studies focused in Social Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Argosy University in 2012. Professor Davis completed her Doctoral internship at the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority Act where she worked on research of municipal workers and their knowledge of the elderly community. Furthermore, Dr. Davis completed a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from Governor’s State on 6/21/2022. Professor Davis has presented at the Illinois Counseling Association on the topics of Trauma Informed Care and Cyberbullying and Teenage girls.
In the clinical setting, Dr. Davis utilizes an Integrated Theoretical Approach to ensure each of her clients has a personalized counseling experience tailored to their specific needs. Her areas of expertise include but are not limited to the following: Racial identity, dual diagnosis, blended families, career counseling, addiction, family conflict, depression, grief, trauma, relationship issues, LGBTQ+, domestic violence, and many more. Dr. Davis is passionate about working with all demographics, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or any other distinguishing characteristic or trait. She takes pride in creating a therapeutic space that is safe, welcoming, and supportive to each individual, couple, and family that she serves.
